Torchwood Magazine issue #23 has some exclusive character profiles of the new Torchwood members for Series 4…
CIA agent, lat 20s. A fast-tracked high-flyer, and he knows it! Rex is fast, sharp, smart, clever, and when the situation demands it, ruthless. He’s got a lethal sense of humour and he doesn’t care if he makes enemies – he’s too busy enjoying himself. But when Rex’s life is put in danger, he feels his own mortality for the first time, and has to balance the demands of the job and his duty to his country against his desperate desire to survive. Though that doesn’t defeat him – if anything, it makes him more arrogant and unstoppable than ever! For Rex, all rules are off. Like him or loathe him, you can’t miss him – and that’s exactly how Rex wants things to be.
Esther Katusi
CIA analyst, early 20s. With one of the less glamorous jobs in the CIA, Esther is determined to better herself! She’s still young, so the job hasn’t made her cynical yet. She’s still and optimist, and her faith in mankind is sustained by her own Christianity. She’s hopelessly in love with Rex Matheson, though she’d never tell him. She’s no pushover, however. She’s more than capable of thinking for herself, and can break the rules when she needs to. And when Esther is forced off the grid and on the run, she learns to survive, fast. she turns out to be a natural, learning to fight and run with the best of them, without ever losing her essential good-hearted nature.
Oswald Jones
Convicted murderer and paedophile, late 40s. Oswald is no thug – this man is dangerously clever. He escapes his sentence on a technicality and finds himself becoming a media celebrity. He’s sharp enough to make the most of the situation, and to profit from it. He’s always looking for the chance to promote himself – while knowing that many people want him dead. He appears to be genuinely repentant – but underneath he’s still boiling with lust and rage. And one day, he’s going to lose control again. He is destined to become more important than he could have foreseen, as terrifying events of worldwide significance begin to turn around him…
In the interview with Russell T Davies, the showrunner also told for the first time that there will be a fourth Torchwood newcomer, called Vera Juarez - a doctor.
Davies said of her:
What do you think? What are your thought on these characters?“She’s a vital character who gets involved in the big worldwide story that grips everyone together. She’s rather marvellous, and she’s almost the fifth member of the team […] I’m imagining Vera as mid-30s Latina, but that could change when we get to casting.”
Please comment.
No... no... no... no... Does not like.... Did anyone else read Oswald's profile and go "paedophile, late 40's... wait.. WHAT?!" Wow, just wow. I don't exactly like Esther and Rex, they really sound like remakes of Owen and Tosh. Rex being suave and having no rules, Esther being grounded, smart, innocent and in love with Rex? Too close for comfort. Not sure I like any of them yet...
ReplyDeleteno the new characters are far to much like the old ones and for that paedophile remark i mean come on im glad there will be another series but the new characters suck if anything they should have brought some people we already know in to it like for anyone who saw david tennants final episode mickey smith and martha jones have gone free lance well jack could recruit them theres two new characters already all you need is one character now but thats my opinion
ReplyDeleteSo what's happened to Gwen then? For me she was the best charactor, after Jack.
ReplyDeleteJust so you know Anon (the 2nd one) Gwen IS returning, but she isn't a new character so they released the new characters' profiles first.
