Life: Ianto Jones was born and raised in Cardiff with his father and sister, Rhiannon. His father was a master tailor with a shop in the Welsh capital. Ianto would often be taken by his father to the Electro Cinema (also featured in TW: 'Out of the Rain').

As he grew up, Ianto was an exceptionally gifted student, taking a number of temporary jobs before eventually becoming a Junior Researcher at Torchwood 1 in London. During his time at Torchwood 1, he began going out with another employee, Lisa Hallett. When the Battle of Canary Wharf escalated the Cybermen started trying to convert whole bodies - Lisa Hallett was one of these people.

After being recruited to Torchwood 3 in Cardiff by a Captain Jack Harkness following a series of meetings and a pterodactyl capture (later), Ianto kept Lisa (now a Cyberwoman) in Torchwood's 'cellar'. But when he tried to add maximum power to keep Lisa alive, events took a turn for the worse and Lisa was killed. Ianto was temporarily suspended for four weeks.

Soon, Ianto began taking more of an active role in the team, now going on missions with the others. His first mission of this kind was in 'Countrycide' he questioned Toshiko, while they're locked up in the cannibals basement, on how she and the others can carry on like this without going mad or getting killed, she replies saying it is worth the risk to protect people. He has become much more used to the missions since the incident with the cannibals.

Ianto has even begun a relationship with his boss, Jark Harkness, but insists to his sister Rhiannon that "It's not men. It's him. Only him" (TW: 'Children of Earth' - 'Day One').
